The surf competition
Billabong Pro Tahiti International surf competition is happening every year around May in Tahiti Teahupoo. Teahupoo is situated on the small island called Tahiti iti (see the map bellow). The competition takes place at the very end of the main road. The contest is part of the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) world tour. World class surfers like the famous Kelly Slater participate to this contest. The surf takes place on the reef in the pass of Teavaino which is facing the South swell. Waves are appreciated by the surfers and can be huge (up to 8 meters). There is a bunch of guest house around the spot but for the competition you have to book in advance in order to get somewhere to sleep. The competition last about two weeks. You can get to Tahiti by International airlines from Sydney, Auckland, LA, Japan, France or New York and then get a car to Teahupoo. Don't miss that special surfing event.
